Advancing the Art and Craft of Textile Embellishment

Felting with Jane Price on October 19th 2013

Autumn was definitely in the air as we arrived for our October meeting.  Our raffle colour scheme was copper, rust and the fallen leaves of autumn and our gathering also reflected the warmth of these colours as we chatted and shared our skills during the day.

Our tutor today was Jane Price who is one of our members and is also on our committee. Jane is an excellent felt maker and our members today would experience just how enjoyable felting can be. They felted over a bar of soap, over a small rubber ball to create a flower and made the most beautiful round beads. All of these little treasures could be used to enhance any piece of textile work thus making the art of felting such a useful addition to an embroiderer’s skills.

Members that decided to work on their own worked on such things as needle lace, book wraps and tree decorations for Christmas. This small group of members had a little extra surprise as Pat our chairman gave them a very personal tutorial on using simple folds for making the spines for handmade books.  Pages then would need to be added and these lovely books could then hold stitched samples, artwork or photos. What a very productive day was had by all.
